Julie M. Quink

Julie M. Quink, CPA, CFE

Julie is the Managing Principal of the Firm. She joined the firm in 2011 and has over 26 years of experience in public accounting and 3 years of private, corporate accounting experience.

Julie earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Elms College. She previously worked 4 years for an international accounting firm and 16 years for a medium-sized local firm.

Julie is involved in the accounting and consulting aspects of the practice and manages engagements of various sizes and complexity. She also performs services relative to forensic and fraud-related engagements.

Julie is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Massachusetts Society of Certified Public Accountants and the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners. She is licensed to practice in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and is a Certified Fraud Examiner.

Julie serves as a member of the Board of Directors of the Quaboag Hills Chamber of Commerce, a member of the Board of Directors of Square One, a member of the School Committee of Pathfinder Regional Vocational Technical High School, a member of the Finance Committee of the East Quabbin Land Trust, a member of the Board of Directors for Greater Springfield Senior Services, Inc., Treasurer of Hardwick Rescue & Emergency Squad, Inc. and Treasurer of the Estate Planning Council of Hampden County and a Selectperson for the Town of Hardwick. She is an adjunct faculty in the MBA Accounting program at Elms College. Julie serves as a Corporator of Monson Saving Bank.

Julie was a 2017 recipient of the MSCPA’s Women to Watch awards.

Julie enjoys spending time with her family, reading, playing golf, gardening and volunteering at various community organizations in her town.

Deborah J Penzias

Deborah J. Penzias, CPA

Debbie is a principal for the Firm. She joined the firm in 1998 and has over 30 years of experience in public accounting.

Debbie graduated from The State University of New York at Oswego with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting. She previously worked at a medium-sized firm in Rockville Centre, New York for 13 years prior to her relocation to Western Massachusetts.

Debbie services a diverse client base and is involved in the accounting, consulting and tax areas of the practice, managing engagements of various sizes and complexity.

She is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Massachusetts Society of Certified Public Accountants, the Estate Planning Council of Hampden County and the Professional Women's Chamber of Greater Springfield.

Debbie served on the Board of Directors of Beit Ahavah, the reform synagogue of greater Northampton. She has also served on the Board of Directors of Lander Grinspoon Academy and was a member of the Finance Committee.

In her free time, she enjoys playing tennis, cycling, hiking, most fitness activities, traveling and spending time with her teenage daughter. In the last few years, Debbie has taken up the ukulele!

Richard F. Burkhart

Richard F. Burkhart, CPA

Rick is a co-founder and Principal Emeritus of the Firm. He has over 40 years of experience in public accounting.

He earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Accounting from the University of Massachusetts.

Rick is involved in the accounting, financial reporting, tax planning and compliance aspect of the practice. In addition, he provides consulting and client representation before taxing authorities. His experience encompasses various industries and clients of various size and complexity.

He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Massachusetts Society of Certified Public Accountants.

Rick is a past member of the Board of Directors of the Food Bank of Western Mass, having served as its Treasurer and chairing the Finance and Audit Committees. He is a member and former chair of the Redevelopment Authority of West Springfield, MA and the past President of the Rotary Club of West Springfield.

Rick is a former flight instructor who loves to travel. In his free time, he can be found spending time with his 6 grandchildren, 4 children and loving wife.

Salvatore J. Pizzanelli

Salvatore J. Pizzanelli, CPA, JD, PFS

Sam is a co-founder and Principal Emeritus of the Firm. He has over 40 years of experience in public accounting.

He earned a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from American International College and his Juris Doctorate from Villanova University.

Sam is involved in the accounting, tax and estate planning areas of the practice. In addition, he provides a wide array of services to closely-held corporations, partnerships and individuals, including litigation support.

He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Massachusetts Society of Certified Public Accountants and a former member of the Massachusetts Bar Association.

Sam is a member of the Board of Directors of Cambridge Credit Counseling Corp., East Longmeadow Tennis Association, Inc. and Honor Conor, Inc.

When he’s not out on the golf course, Sam can be found watching and quoting various genres of old-time films.

Thomas R Pratt

Thomas R. Pratt, CPA, JD

Tom is a Principal Emeritus of the Firm. He has over 40 years of experience in public accounting.

He earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Accounting from American International College and a degree of Juris Doctor from Western New England University.

Tom is involved in the accounting, financial reporting, tax planning and compliance aspects of the practice. His experience encompasses various industries and clients of various sizes and complexity.

He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Massachusetts Society of Certified Public Accountants, the American Bar Association, the Massachusetts Bar Association and the Estate Planning Council of Hampden County.

Tom is a member of the Board of Trustees of Monson Savings Bank, serving on its Board of Investment. He is a former Chair and current board member of Loomis Communities.

Tom spends his free time traveling and when weather permits, can be found on the golf course.

Stephen C

Stephen R. Chiacchia, CPA, ABV, CVA, MST

Steve joined Burkhart, Pizzanelli, P.C. in early 2019 after his practice was acquired by the firm. He is a Principal Emeritus of the firm.

He started his career with a national firm and has over 45 years of public accounting experience. In addition, Steve is a former college professor of accounting and taxation.

Steve is a graduate of Western New England University and has a Master of Science in Taxation and Graduate Certificate in Taxation from Bentley University. He is also accredited in business valuation.

Steve is a member of various professional accounting and valuation organizations. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accounts and the Massachusetts Society of Certified Public Accountants. He is on the Board of Directors of Monson Savings Bank and several other corporations and nonprofit organizations.

Steve and his wife Joanne enjoy many hours giving back to the community in various ways.

Robert Ash

Robert R. Ash, CPA

Robert joined the team in 2019 and is a Manager of the Firm. He has over 35 years of experience in public accounting and over 5 years of experience in the private sector as both an auditor and a controller. He also served as a Police Officer and Crime Prevention Officer for the Granby Police Department for 17 years.

He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Western New England University and his Master of Science degree in Taxation from the University of Hartford.

Robert concentrates his services on all aspects of the tax practice and manages complex engagements. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Massachusetts Society of Certified Public Accountants.

In his free time, he enjoys taking a long country ride on his motorcycle and coming home to a hot cup of coffee.

Rebecca C

Rebecca J. Connolly, CPA

Rebecca joined the team in 2018 and is a Manager for the Firm. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Accounting and Business Management from Elms College.  She has over 12 years of experience in public accounting. She previously worked for 11 years for a medium-sized local firm.

Rebecca is involved in the accounting and consulting aspect of the practice and manages engagements of various sizes and complexity including non-profit, construction companies, manufacturing, and distributors. She is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Massachusetts Society of Certified Public Accountants.

Rebecca is an adjunct faculty in the undergraduate Accounting program at Elms College. Additionally, she serves on the Accounting Advisory Board for Elms College. She joined the Board of Directors for the Forest Park Zoological Society and the Baystate Academy Public Charter School in 2019.

Rebecca was a 2019 recipient of the MSCPA’s Women to Watch awards.

In her free time, she loves chasing her two children around and watching them play sports.

Elaine M Cortis

Elaine M. Cortis

Elaine joined the team in 2001 and is a Staff Accountant and Bookkeeping Supervisor for the Firm. She has over 30 years of experience in public accounting.

Elaine graduated from North Adams State College with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting. She also has two Associate degrees from Holyoke Community College in Accounting and Business Administration.

Elaine is involved in bookkeeping, payroll tax returns, 1099’s and tax returns for both individuals and corporations. As a QuickBooks ProAdvisor, she offers support and training for our clients.

In her free time, she can be found at various craft shows as well as classic car shows.

David N. Gervais, CPA

David joined the team in 1991 and is a Manager of the Firm. He has over 28 years of experience in public accounting and prior to that, 11 years in the private sector as an auditor and financial analyst.

He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Bentley College and his Master of Science degree in Taxation from the Barney School of Business, University of Hartford.

David concentrates his services on all aspects of the tax practice and manages complex engagements. He also performs services relative to forensic and fraud related engagements.

He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Massachusetts Society of Certified Public Accountants.

David was a member of the West Springfield Lions Club and served as a member of its Board of Directors, President, and Treasurer. He served as committee member of Massachusetts Lions Multiple District 33 Constitution and By-Laws Committee. He is a past District Governor of Massachusetts Lions District 33-Y.

In his free time, David can be found reading a book at his campsite. David also loves animals and spending time with his friends, family and beautiful granddaughter.

Matt K

Matthew Kapecki

Matt joined the team in 2019 and is a Staff Accountant for the Firm.

Matt received his Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Western New England University.

Matt is involved in the tax, consulting and accounting areas of the practice. He services a diverse client base and is involved in engagements of various size and complexity.

He is a member of the Massachusetts Society of Certified Public Accountants.

In his free time, Matt enjoys playing various sports, going to concerts and snowboarding in the winter.

Caron A. LaCour, CPA

Caron joined the team in 2013 and is a Manager for the Firm. She has over 25 years of experience in public accounting working with a variety of clients in the tax area of the practice.

She graduated from Western New England University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting. Previously she worked with several other local accounting firms in the greater Springfield area. Caron is licensed to practice in the State of Connecticut.

She is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Massachusetts Society of Certified Public Accountants, the Connecticut Society of Certified Public Accountants and is the Treasurer of the Professional Women's Chamber of Greater Springfield.

In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family, working on craft projects and traveling to anywhere there is a beach and warm weather!

Sarah Lapolice

Sarah R. Lapolice, CPA, MBA

Sarah joined the team in 2015 and is a Staff Accountant for the Firm. She has over 5 years of experience in public accounting and previously worked 6 years for an Enrolled Agent.

Sarah earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting and a Master of Business Administration degree with a concentration in Accounting from Elms College. She has served as Captain for various college sports teams and has a Minor in Coaching. She is well versed in the idea of teamwork and working together to achieve a common goal.

Sarah is involved in the tax, consulting and accounting areas of the practice. She services a diverse client base and manages engagements of various size and complexity. She is a member of the Massachusetts Society of Certified Public Accountants.

Sarah is a singer-songwriter who plays the guitar and loves listening to music. She enjoys being around the campfire and spending time with her family and friends.

Joshua L. Messer

Joshua L. Messer, CPA, MSA

Josh joined the team in 2014 and is a Staff Accountant for the Firm. He has over 10 years of experience in public accounting.

Josh earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Western New England College and his Master of Science in Accountancy from Westfield State University. He previously worked for a medium-sized public accounting firm for 4.5 years.

Josh services a diverse client base and is involved in the accounting, consulting and tax areas of the practice, managing engagements of various size and complexity. He is a member of the Massachusetts Society of Certified Public Accountants.

He is on the Executive Committee of the West Springfield Boys & Girls Club, Inc. as their Treasurer. In 2018, Josh joined the MSCPA firm ambassador program acting as a liaison between the society and our Firm.

In the spring and summer, you can find him on the golf course as often as possible.

Michelle M. Miller

Michelle joined the team in 2019 and is a Manager for the Firm. She has over 30 years of experience in public accounting.

Michelle earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from American International College in 1989.
She is involved in all aspects of client services including, accounting, tax, auditing, bookkeeping and payroll for individuals, corporations, partnerships, and trusts.

She is a member of the Massachusetts Society of Certified Public Accountants.

In her free time, Michelle is team captain for her ten-pin bowling league of which she has been involved for 17 years. Her interests also include throwing pottery on the wheel and on weekends she enjoys going to the movies.

Cheryl Ann Montone, CPA

Cherie joined the team in 1987 and is a Manager for the Firm. She has over 30 years of experience in public accounting.

Cherie graduated cum laude from American International College with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting. Prior to joining the firm, she served in the United States Air Force, primarily in the Electronic Security Command stationed at Hahn Air Base, Germany.

Cherie specializes in the small business set up and consulting services and is a QuickBooks Pro Advisor. She is involved in the accounting, financial reporting, and tax planning and compliance aspects of the practice.

She is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Massachusetts Society of Certified Public Accountants.

She is an avid bowler and was a former Secretary/Treasurer of the Tuesday Night Mixed Bowling League at AMF Chicopee Lanes.

Cherie enjoys cross stitch and is a supporter of various animal charities. She is a dedicated supporter of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.

Kassie P

Kassandra N. Pepper

Kassie joined the team in 2019 and is a Staff Accountant for the Firm.

Kassie earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Business as well as a Bachelor of Science degree in Cyber Security from Bay Path University. While in school, she was a participant in the Women in Stem Honors Program.

Kassie services a diverse client base and is involved in the accounting, consulting and tax areas of the practice. She is a member of the Massachusetts Society of Certified Public Accountants.

Kassie is an avid music lover. In her free time, she enjoys playing the banjo and the piano. She also enjoys baking and cooking.

Joseph M. Perlak

Joe joined the team in 2019 and is a Staff Accountant for the Firm. He has 5 years of experience in public accounting.

Joe earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Worcester State University. While there, he played 4 years of college baseball.

Joe is involved in the tax, consulting and accounting areas of the practice. He services a diverse client base of various size and complexity.

He is a member of the Massachusetts Society of Certified Public Accountants.

In his free time, Joe likes to play softball, bowl and spend time with his friends and family.

Stephanie A. Tobin

Stephanie joined the team in 2017 and is a Staff Accountant for the Firm.

Stephanie received her Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Elms College in December of 2016. Prior to joining the firm, she gained experience as an intern in both public and private accounting.

Stephanie is involved in bookkeeping, 1099’s and tax return areas of the firm for both individuals and corporations serving a diverse client base.

She is a member of the Massachusetts Society of Certified Public Accountants.

In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her dog and family.

Jane Burnham

Jane joined the team in 2019 and is an office administrator for the Firm. She has over 30 years of experience in an administrative capacity.

Jane enjoys snowmobiling, camping, boating and spending time with her family.

Donna Clements

Donna Clements

Donna joined the team in 2012 and is an office administrator for the Firm. She has over 35 years of experience in an administrative capacity.

Donna is an avid reader and has recently become a volunteer in the Link to Libraries program reading to third-grade students in West Springfield. She also volunteers at Square One in Springfield, reading to the toddlers attending that program.

Frances P. Dominici

Frances P. Dominici

Fran joined the team in 1998 and is the Human Resource Manager for the Firm. She has over 40 years of experience in public accounting, the first 28 of which were with an international firm in which she held various positions, ending as the Human Resource and Office Manager for the Springfield office.

She graduated from Welch High School, in Welch, WVA with a concentration in Business. She has continued her education with various personnel-related courses, workshops, seminars and professional development courses, including topics such as employment and labor law in Massachusetts, sexual harassment, maximizing excellence through diversity, and increasing profitability through work assignments.

In her free time, she enjoys reading, cooking and spending time with family.

Jody Goodwin

Jody joined the team in 1996 and is an office administrator for the Firm. She has over 30 years of experience in an administrative capacity.

Jody enjoys camping and spending time with family and friends.
